OKMULGEE, Okla. — Okmulgee police need the public’s help with information about a possible hit and run.
Officers say they were called to W. First St. and N. Oklahoma Ave. about 1:40 a.m. because a woman was lying in the road screaming. Her injuries were “significant,” a news release says.
“When officers arrived, they discovered a female who was obviously injured,” OPD Chief Joe Prentice said. “The victim was not able to identify herself due to the severity of her injuries.”
Based on evidence at the scene and the woman’s injuries, officers say it appears she was struck by a vehicle and the driver fled the scene.
“It is unclear how long the victim had been lying in the road when the reporting party notified police,’ Prentice said.
Prentice says they believe they have identified the woman, but they are not releasing her name until it can be confirmed.
If you saw a collision or observed any vehicle in the area of First and Oklahoma before 1:40 a.m. on Tuesday, you are asked to contact Okmulgee police.
