You may have heard us talk about the "heat dome," or "ridge of high pressure" lately. These are names for the hot weather pattern that is occurring now.
During the hot summer months, the jet stream retreats north, allowing hot air to build across the U.S. High pressure aloft forms and sinking air develops creating sunny and rain-free days.
