TULSA, Okla. — As the rules across Oklahoma get tighter to prevent the spread of COVID-19, restaurants are still allowed to be open for takeout or delivery. They're considered an essential business.
We continue to highlight some of them in our series "We're Open Green Country" to support small businesses.
One of the restaurants that remains open is The Deuce, formerly known as BBD-II, in south Tulsa. It has been a local hot spot for breakfast and lunch items since 2002.
While it celebrates its 20th anniversary, it might not feel like much of a celebration with its dining room currently shut down.
"It's day to day, sometimes it feels like it's hour to hour," explains Jessica McDonnell, the owner of The Deuce.
She says it is a big adjustment to the normally busy foot traffic they see; however, they must follow safety guidelines.
McDonnell is a Tulsa Native. She says small businesses like hers are the heartbeat of Tulsa.
"This is all I've ever known. This is all my kids have ever known and to think this wouldn't be part of our live is heartbreaking," said McDonnell.
As the restaurant's sales tend to fluctuate since the new restrictions went into effect last week, McDonnell and her staff continue to push through and stay motivated by the community's support and loyal clientele.
"We have generational families that come in," says McDonnell, "We're trying to keep up with the orders along with getting the word out to make sure people still know that we're here."
While the COVID-19 situation continues to unfold, she says they will continue serving their customers and supporting their employees as long as they can.
The Deuce is open seven days a week, Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
