TULSA, Okla. — A shop on the Historic Route 66 in Tulsa is hoping you’ll help them out by placing an order.

Sweets & Cream, located at 1114 S. Yale Avenue, is owned and operated by a family of Tulsa natives who have a true passion for bringing the smiles.

When the shop opened on St. Patrick's Day in 2018, it was a dream come true for co-owner, Kimberly Norman.

"It had always been my dream to do this for many, many years," Norman said. "We wanted to have a place where people could bring their children, and they could get a treat for the whole family that was affordable."

Sweets & Cream specialty item is a $1.99 ice cream sandwich that is made with cookies that are baked fresh every morning.

"My mom and I come in and make these cookies and brownies," Norman said. “So you know you’re not going to get a cookie like you would from a store, they are really like cookies your grandmother made when you were growing up."

At this time of year, the parlor here at Sweets & Cream is usually full of people peering in at their display case filled with cookies and brownies, but the COVID-19 pandemic has prevented the shop from being the summer hang out for families.

"We actually close from right before Christmas until Valentine's Day each year, so unfortunately we had literally just reopened for the season when the pandemic hit," Norman said.

Sweets & Cream may be closed to the public, but they are still taking cookie and brownie orders online.

"When they come to pick up their order they can either come to the front or we will walk it out to them outside," Norman said.

The family is staying positive by planning special treats to offer at the shop for customers when they re-open to the public.

"This great weather and sunshine is what brings people in here, so we are hoping to see that again," Norman said.
