TULSA – A local activist group is speaking out in regards to a lawsuit involving the Tulsa County Jail and its inmates allegedly being sexually assaulted.

The group, We the People Oklahoma, is calling on District Attorney Steve Kunzweiler to file charges against former detention officer Seth Bowers. The group says, “We believe the former District Attorney did not act appropriately when he refused to file charges against the former detention officer. Bowers was instead allowed to resign prior to taking a polygraph test and, in previous depositions, he pleaded the Fifth Amendment when questioned about the girl’s allegations.”

The Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office recommended criminal charges be filed against Bowers after he was accused of raping a 17-year-old who was behind bars.

The former District Attorney did not file charges. Now, We the People says the case is within the 12 years statute of limitations.
