UPDATE: Wagoner Schools Superintendent makes statement in relation to social media threat

WAGONER, Okla. — UPDATE: Wagoner Public Schools Superintendent Randy Harris made a statement Friday morning in regards to the canceling of classes after a social media threat was made towards the high school.

According to the statement, Harris says, school officials received a notice last night of a threat that was made on social media towards the high school.

Harris says the threat was made by someone who was not a student in Wagoner Public Schools, but, due to the person's background, the threat that was made was credible in school official's opinions.

School officials have been in contact with the local law enforcement, Harris says, "We appreciate our relationship with Wagoner Police Department and our combined mission to keep our students and staff safe."

Harris goes on to say that they do believe the threat is no longer concerning even though it is an ongoing investigation.

Harris says the High School and Middle School have posted on their Facebook pages the information needed in regards to students making up their semester tests.

Wagoner Public Schools has several built in Inclement Weather days and does not foresee the need to make up today for attendance purposes.

Harris finished his statement by saying, "This is all I feel I can share at this time."

Wagoner Public Schools is canceling classes for Friday, after a social media threat was made toward the high school,according to a post on the district's Facebook page.

The post says the decision was made to cancel classes "due to the severity of the threat."

"Wagoner Public Schools will be closed today. Last night on social media a threat was made directed at our High School. Due to the severity of the threat we have decided to close all schools. We are sorry for any inconvenience, and hope you have a good holiday. We will update everyone on semester tests soon. Thank you"
