BROKEN ARROW, Okla. -- A simple thank you goes a long way and in this case, it’s going overseas to our troops.
“We send what they call freedom boxes overseas which contains food, socks, one of the favorites – toilet paper,” said Patsy Adams with Blue Star Mothers in Broken Arrow.
Volunteers with Eagle Ops and Blue Star Mothers in Broken Arrow spent their Veterans Day loading up care packages. The boxes were filled with items which may seem minuscule to some, but mean the world to troops overseas.
“It could be a widget, it could be some m&m’s, it could be a bar of chocolate or something that reminds me of home just keeps me pushing forward whether it be in training or whether it be in that foxhole, to know that I’ve got something to come home to,” said Johnathon Shepherd, Co-founder of Eagle Ops.
Items which are nearly impossible for the military members to purchase wherever they are stationed.
“Some of them are out in the middle of nowhere, they don’t get any of that stuff unless they get the boxes from us or from their families,” said Adams.
With some of the volunteers being veterans themselves, this is a chance to return the favor and make sure other active duty members know they are not forgotten.
“I get to come and not only give back to those veterans but i also get to give back to the organizations that helped us and gave us that little nudge that we needed whenever we were overseas,” said Shepherd.
The 200 care packages will be shipped out this coming week. If you would like to send a care package to your loved one overseas you can contact Blue Star Mothers in Broken Arrow. All you have to do is provide a name, an apo address, and the date of return.
