and last updated

The Rock Volunteer Fire Department held one it's biggest events of the year today.

An auction, consisting of over eight hundred items to be sold, raising money to keep the department funded.

Residents of Skiatook, Sand Springs, and other surrounding cities all came out to support the Rock Volunteer Fire Department.

They were not only fundraising for the department but also to help rebuild an old school house for the community.

This auction is the only fundraiser for the year, which allows the volunteer firefighters to maintain equipment and gear.

Rock Volunteer Fire Department has twenty-seven firefighters on staff answering phone calls day and night.

They take care of the people in the community that need them on their own time, using the money raised.

Chief Charley Pearson tells us, "They take care of the community and the community takes care of them. If we didn't have people donating stuff, and we didn't have people buying, we would not have an auction. So we just can't say enough to the people that come out here."

In previous auctions they have raised as much as twenty-five thousand dollars.
