Victims frustrated after post office break-ins

Several dozen people could be the victim of mail theft after several dozen burglaries at post office locations across Green Country.

Owasso Police are reporting dozens of mailboxes burglarized over the weekend at the location on North Cedar. There also have been reports at the post office location at Utica Square. Tulsa Police responded to dozens of mailboxes burglarized at a post office location in east Tulsa.

Billy Minter, one of the theft victims, called police after he noticed his post office box was broken into Monday afternoon.

“We pay a lot of money for secure boxes and this has happened before," Minter said. "So I hear this happened in Owasso and other places, but you'd think they would have in a federal building like this they would have cameras to secure it. This is no different than at home where the mail is taken out of your boxes there."

As for the Utica Square location, the mailboxes are roped off with caution tape and the door was locked Monday afternoon.

The sign on the door reads "Sorry we are closed for repairs, open back up Tuesday morning."

Breaking into a post office box is a federal crime. Right now, we don't know if this is the same suspect, multiple suspects, or if even these are connected.

We contacted the Postal Inspector's office, but because of the federal holiday, we were not able to get any information.

If you think your mail has been stolen or your mailbox tampered with, you should report it to the post office and you can also notify police.
