Today is the official 20th birthday of the movie "Twister."

The movie made its debut on May 10, 1996. The film takes place in rural tornado country, where a TV meteorologist gets roped into once again chasing storms.

According to IMBD, the movie was also the first to make its way on to DVD when the technology first came out.

TOTO was also inspired by a real life experiment done by researchers, according to NOAA's Facebook page.

Another little known fact about the film according to the site, a Boeing 707 engine was used to generate wind in some scenes.
