TULSA -- Staff members at the Parkside Psychiatric Hospital & Clinic handed out bags of trimmings along with frozen turkeys Tuesday to more than a hundred patients.
"It's nice to know that those Parkside families that we're serving are going to enjoy a healthy, nutritious meal," Eric Sachau, the hospital's director of business development, said.
The hospital offers food assistance to its patients well beyond the holidays. Help is available, in fact, year-round. In 2003 the hospital converted several offices in its outpatient clinic into a large food pantry.
"Outpatients can access it each month," Sachau said. "Inpatients, if they're discharging and going home, we don't want them going home to a household with no food."
With her bag of food and turkey in hand, patient Cass Cinnabar is ready to hit the road with one less worry on this holiday.
"It's truly a blessing," Cinnabar said, "because I'm traveling up to Wichita after this to see my daughter this year, so I'm bringing the food this year and she's cooking."
