TULSA, Okla. — Tulsa's largest stand-alone soup kitchen, Iron Gate, is holding a ribbon cutting for its guests and donors at its new and improved location in downtown.
The celebration is taking place at 11 a.m. on 501 West Archer.
Iron Gate's new facility is more than 17,000 square feet with a covered patio. The size of its new dining room more than doubled from its previous location. They're able to seat more than 200 people, up from 88 spaces.
"Our numbers are up about 20%. Our first week we served about 5,000 meals, and we've been trending that way ever since, so it has been busy," said Carrie Vesely Henderson, the executive director of Iron Gate.
The grocery pantry has also expanded in size. Guest can come three times a week and choose any nonperishable food items to take home.
The staff at Iron Gate is preparing for it biggest fundraiser of the year, Cooking for a Cause.
It'll bring some of the top chefs in Tulsa preparing menus to be paired with wine and beer. The fundraiser is on October 10 at Metro Appliances.
