Tulsa's Great Raft Race makes 2016 return; hundreds to gather for Labor Day event

Hundreds of rafts floated down the Arkansas River for Tulsa's Great Raft Race Monday.

A total of 200 teams signed up for for the 2016 race, which coordinators say means about 750 people are participating in the event.

One man says his brother spent 120 hours building the raft. Jim Rothrock says him and his brother participated last year, but today, they're expecting the boat to have more power.

"We've but a fire pump off a brush rig on here and we can pump 80 gallons of water a minute at 100 pounds, and we intend to clean them all up."

Participants raced for eight miles down the river. This marks the second year the race has returned after the race was canceled in 1991.
