TULSA – There are so any iconic things that represent the 918 but what about the city’s flag design? One group is petitioning to have the design of Tulsa’s flag changed in an effort to better reflect the city.

Tulsa Flag’s website is encouraging Tulsans to stop and think about what reminds them of the city. Because the current Tulsa flag is the city seal on a white background, it’s not sold in stores or able to be distributed due to it being copyrighted.

Back in May of 2015, TED Talk radio deemed the current Tulsa flag as one of the worst designs. Roman Mars, the host, brought up the Tulsa design referencing five principles of flag design that should be followed, and from a look at the list, it appears Tulsa's flag violates most of the principles.

1. Keep it simple
2. Use meaningful symbolism
3. Use two to three basic colors
4. No lettering or seals
5. Be distinctive
