Tulsa Public Schools needs to fill more than 100 support staff positions by the start of the 2016-2017 school year.
To do so, TPS will hold a job fair Wednesday afternoon.
The open positions at the district are for people who don't hold a teaching certificate.
"You're looking at custodial, you're looking at bus drivers, you're looking at child nutrition, electricians, plumbers, HVAC technicians. You're looking at PC techs, you're looking at programmers, all the various positions," said Bill Naftzger, director of support talent for TPS.
The support staff positions comprise about half of the 7,000 positions in the district.
The positions, Naftzger says, are the backbone of the school system.
"Without the teachers, our kids don't get educated. But we have all the other individuals that work behind the scenes supporting those teachers. As I like to say, they work to remove obstacles so that teachers can educate," said Naftzger.
Among the thousands of support staff members is Loretta Miller, who's spent 31 years in the district.
"You have to have maintenance, you know, plan ops. We have to clean the buildings. They have to be maintained. You have to have the cooks, you know, to cook the food for the kids and stuff. And it's not just one or two people, it's all of us," Miller, a building engineer, said.
The fair is 1:00 - 4:30 p.m. at the Wilson Teaching and Learning Academy located at 2710 E. 11th St.
