TULSA, Okla. — The enrollment process for Tulsa Public Schools is changing. Starting this year, all parents and guardians will enroll their children during the same time period for all grade levels and schools.

TPS leaders said this process will be better for parents in the district.

“It’s in response to what we heard from families of what has made their ability to enroll more complicated in the past,” said TPS Chief Operations Officer, Jorje Robles. “We’re actually consolidating everything into one process, one application, one window of time so that it makes it easier for families.”

The enrollment period for the 2021-2020 school year starts Dec. 9 and lasts through Jan. 31.

“Regardless of the type of school you’re applying to there’s only one window of time and that starts then,” Robles said. “You do a single application whether you want to enroll in your neighborhood school or a magnet school or charter school you only go through one process during that window.”

Future Pre-K students will go through this process as well and this enrollment will be to stay in that same school through 5th grade.

Robles also said this will help TPS administrators get parents their desired education choices for their students.

“Families can declare up to six choices of the schools that they want and that enables us to try to match them to their highest possible choice,” Robles said.

TPS officials say they will let families know which school their students are enrolled in March.

In addition to streamlining the enrollment process, the enrollment website is getting an update. The site is getting a new “school locator tool” which allows users to learn what school is nearest to them and gives some information about the schools.

Parents can enroll their students online, at the TPS enrollment center, or at the Tulsa County Library, Martin Regional Library, Rudisill Regional Library, or Zarrow Regional Library.

TPS will also have enrollment buses driving around the city during the enrollment period where people can ask questions and enroll on. The locations of the buses will be posted on the TPS enrollment website in late November.

To help parents and guardians with the changes to the enrollment process, TPS is hosting an information session on Thursday, Nov. 7 at the Zarrow Library and an enrollment expo on Jan. 11 at the Cox Business Center.
