TULSA, Okla. — Tulsa police have identified the woman who died in a crash on Thursday in east Tulsa.

Police say employees at the Triad Eye Institute near 61st and Memorial noticed the company's 23-year-old intern was behaving oddly when she returned from her lunch break.

"They told us she was slurring her words and couldn't understand what she was saying," said Sgt. Brian Collum with the Tulsa Police Department.

Three employees tried to stop the young woman from leaving the parking lot, but she drove away.

“She ended up running three employees over," Sgt. Collum said. "Luckily, they will be okay."

The woman, who police later identified as Valerie Gutierrez, proceeded to drive her vehicle down 129th East Ave, ran a red light, then hit a semi near 61st and 129th East Avenue, officials said.

Officers say when Gutierrez collided with the semi, her vehicle was driving in an excess of 60 miles an hour. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials say she may have been drug-induced or had a stroke.
