TULSA, Okla. — Tommy Salyer says he is lucky to be alive after being shot several times while driving in his truck.
Salyer said it all started when he tried to get ahead of traffic, which was slowed on Highway 11 by the Tulsa Airport.
"I was turning on my blinker to go around traffic because there was a semi there," Salyer said.
Sayler said that's when he was cut off by a brown car with three black men inside.
After being cut off, Sayler said the car slammed on the break several times.
Sayler said once out of the construction, he looked in his rear view mirror and saw the driver of the brown car pointing a gun. Then shots rang out.
Sayler said he felt the bullet go through his back and only had one thought.
"I hope I live." Sayler said. "That's all that was going through my head."
Sayler sped away and pulled into a parking lot.
The shooter called police and said he was afraid of Sayler and the shooting was self defense.
The shooter has not been arrested.
Sayler had to have part of his lung removed and a bullet is still in his collar bone. It will take several months to recover.
