TULSA, Okla. — A popular celebration drawing thousands of people to downtown Tulsa for a street party is now postponed.

St. Patrick's Day celebrations and downtown block party will not be held this year.

Bar owners, Chris Armstrong (Arnie’s Bar) and Erick Dyer (Kilkenny’s), along with McNellie’s owner, say it is more important to keep the community safe, but having to cancel is a hard hit. Hundreds of thousands of dollars are put into the celebrations.

Armstrong says, “We’ve talked with the health department and noticed everyone else is canceling. We want our customers to be safe. We did order extra hand sanitizers, but noticed that’s not enough.”

This is the first time they have ever had to cancel their busiest and best day of the year for business.

The bars will still be open on St. Patrick’s Day, they just will not celebrate on as large of a scale as usual.
