Homicide detectives say they have arrested a 17-year-old boy in connection to the weekend death of a 15-year-old girl.

Brittany Urena was found dead with a gunshot wound at the Belmont Apartments in east Tulsa on Sunday morning. It first was believed to be a suicide.

The next day, police said they found evidence it was not a self-inflicted shooting. They arrested Jose Joel Zamarippa on Tuesday afternoon for Urena’s death.

Several witnesses were present in the same apartment when the shooting took place, officers say. Witnesses at the scene told police Zamarippa and Urenas were playing with the gun and Zamarippa pointed it at Urenas and pulled the trigger, killing her, TPD says.
