TULSA, Okla. — Firefighters are on alert because they know this time of year the months of December, January and February is when half of all home fires occur.

One big problem is people using alternative heating sources like stoves and ovens to heat a house.

The other is on the electrical side when it comes to the fire risk of space heaters.

"It's important that they have those checked yearly. With the space heaters it's important that they keep those three feet from anything combustible. It could be the bed, clothing, drapes, furniture. Anything that's combustible could catch on fire," Tulsa Fire Department spokesperson Andrew Liittle said.
