Tulsan gather to watch Democratic debate

Posted

TULSA- Oklahoma may be a predominately Republican state, but several Tulsans at tonight's Democratic watch party say that won't stop them from supporting other candidates they believe are best for America.

For many at the IDL Ballroom Sunday, Bernie Sanders was the man of the hour.

“Bernie Sanders is the only person running today who is coming up with proposals that will actually allow the middle class to succeed again,” said Bernie Sanders supporter, Andrew Jordan.

The Tulsans for Bernie group has been gaining momentum for the past few months. They watched as the candidates discussed hot button issues like gun control, foreign policy...even the most controversial.

“One of the biggest issues for me is civil rights,” said supporter Larry White. “I think we've kind of gone backwards in this country since the revolution of the 60s.”

Regardless of candidate, organizers and debate watchers alike say the right person to lead the country is on tonight's stage.

“I think secretary Clinton and Bernie Sanders have the right message for America and they will continue the policies of Barack Obama that have been so successful the last two terms,” said White.

“Nothing is guaranteed until the votes come in on Election Day in November,” said Jordan.

They believe the state of Oklahoma will benefit in the long run.

“Oklahoma is consistently ranking at the bottom of all 50 states when it comes to education, income equality, poverty...it's about time Oklahoma stands up and faces the music,” said Jordan.

Oklahomans will head to the polls on March first for the state's presidential primary. This is the last democratic debate until then, but Oklahomans will see at least four more republican debates until they vote.
