Commissioners announced that the Board of County Commissioners has executed a contract to buy 7.5 acres of land for the development of the Juvenile Justice Center. The cost of the land is $5.6 million.
The site is located on Archer Street and Guthrie Avenue near the BOK Center. Demolition of the current building will begin in Spring of 2017 with plans for the facility to be completed by 2018.
Commissioner Karen Keith said during the meeting that the location of the center was moved after a firestorm of complaints were received.
The original plans were for the center to be built at 36th Street North and Martin Luther King Boulevard. Some opponents said they didn't think the center was good for north Tulsa.
Commish Karen Keith says they voted on alternative location after receiving a firestorm of complaints about 36th St N location. @KJRH2HD
