TULSA - Big changes are coming to Tulsa Public Schools as the district rolls out a new enrollment system this year.
School officials said they listened to concerns parents have had in the past about the difficult enrollment process and are hoping this is the way to fix it.
Parents and the community were given a look at the new system at an informational session Monday night.
It's one of four the district plans to hold.
The old plan had three different enrollment periods based on the type of school you wanted to send your child to.
There's now only one enrollment period and one application where parents can choose one of six types of schools.
The district is also cutting down the barriers preventing families from getting their children enrolled by setting up enrollment sites.
"By taking enrollment out into the community, by working with our partner organizations, where families frequent places like the libraries, we hope that the process will be much easier," Emily Hutton, Strategic Operations and Initiatives Director for Tulsa Public Schools, said.
Enrollment for the 2020 -21 school year will be open starting December 9 and closes January 31.
There are still three more chances to attend an informational session to learn more about the enrollment system including Tuesday afternoon at Herman and Kate Kaiser Library from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
