TULSA - Tulsa Public Schools is hoping to bring Tulsans together from all walks of life.
TPS staff say the events of the past week are hard for the country and Tulsa, and that's why they say they want to get concrete about what they can do to learn from the tragedies.
More than a hundred people filled the Booker T. Washington High School track Tuesday night for a forum which focused on a simple pledge of commitment, respect and coming together to make a better future.
"Our campus police officers work in our schools everyday and they work really hard to build relationships with students and teachers, but we know that we have work to do and we acknowledge that and want to own that and then make a pledge to work to continue to work together," Tulsa Public Schools Superintendent Deborah Gist said.
"Prayer is a good way to start," Tulsa resident Marcus Tumey said. "At the end of the day, we just have to work on one another, like I have to start with myself and each individual out here today has to start with themselves to make the change."
Everyone linked arms as TPS leaders spoke about plans to provide training to all of the school resource officers who work with students everyday.
They also plan to hold community forums to help build a safe and supportive culture.
