TULSA, Okla. — A 46-year-old woman was found unresponsive Monday morning at the Tulsa City Jail and later died at the hospital, according to Lt. Shane Tuell with the Tulsa Police Department.
She turned herself into the Tulsa City Jail at 10:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan 2, Tuell said. She had a warrant out for a municipal misdemeanor and second degree larceny.
On the Jan. 2, the woman told jail personnel that she didn’t feel good, Tuell said. EMSA came to check on her, and then they cleared her. On Jan. 6, the woman was found unresponsive in her cell at 8:30 a.m.
She had been checked on periodically and minutes before, she was reportedly okay after being served breakfast, said Tuell. There was no altercation and the Tulsa City Jail did not believe she was a danger to herself.
EMSA and the Tulsa Fire Department were notified, and they transported her to the hospital, said Tuell. At 9:30 a.m., the female passed away.
Since the woman died while in custody of the Tulsa police, there will be a full investigation, said Tuell. Tulsa police will also be waiting on autopsy results.
The woman’s name has not been released.
