Town of Haileyville suffers significant tornado damage

HAILEYVILLE, Okla. — More than 20 homes were lost in Haileyville during a tornado Tuesday night near Highway 270.

In addition to the 22 homes that were destroyed, three businesses were destroyed. Three businesses also took major damage, and 15 more homes had either minor to major damage.

Multiple fire departments from nearby towns and counties responded to the town after three tornado warnings were issued for the storms on Tuesday night. The damage path for the storms was determined to be 1/4 mile wide and eight miles long. It moved southwest of Haileyville and through the town to the north.

The owners of McCullar’s Body Shop say they lost their family-owned business to the tornado last night. They have been in business since the 1970s in Haileyville. Some of their customers’ cars were destroyed.

A 66-year-old woman was taken to the hospital after injuring her leg during the storms.


The board of commissioners in the area is declaring a state of emergency.

The National Weather Service is going to assess damage in the area. Haileyville has a population of about 1,000.
