TULSA -- Thieves target a Bixby auto detailer and stripped nearly all his equipment from his vehicle, severely hurting the small business.
Casey Snodgrass has two hobbies: cleaning and landscaping. He decided to turn one of them into a career.
"I started it three years ago with just a hose, and a water bucket, and a scrub brush," said Snodgrass.
Casey's Mobile Auto Detail out of Bixby was growing, but it a speed bump over the weekend.
"My door was open and I was trying to shut it and it wasn’t shutting," said Snodgrass.
His locked van door was broken, and thousands of dollars in equipment were gone.
"Unfortunately I was at that time where I had everything and it took me three years to get all of that," said Snodgrass.
Besides locking up, Tulsa Better Business Bureau recommends those working from their vehicle to install an alarm system as another method to prevent theft.
"You’re working day and night just to make ends meet, so any type of theft or scam that hits them, hit them really hard," said Shannon Spainhour, Director of Communications for Tulsa Better Business Bureau.
If you work from home, officials say to lock up all equipment and documents, and shred old information.
With the help of donations and community support, Snodgrass replaced most of his equipment in a few days.
"If I could start with a hose and a bucket of water I could do it again, and there’s no reason to dwell on the negativity that happens around us," said Snodgrass.
