Group builds new home for refugees in Tulsa

Posted

TULSA - The Tulsa Habitat for Humanity and dozens of employees from the Blueknight Energy Partners are volunteering their time to help build a new home for a family of refugees.

Go Suan Tung, his wife and two children escaped their war-torn country of Bhurma in 2011 and came to the United States in 2011.

Tung says they had nothing, but now thanks to the Tulsa Habitat for Humanity he has a job and soon a new home through its homeowners education program.

They began construction Friday morning and raised up the four walls and roof.

The Executive Director of the habitat, Cameron Walker, says the family has to complete "sweat equity" hours and will have to repay their mortgage in the course of 20 years, but they will have zero interest.
