The Tint Shop back in action one year after tornado

Posted

MUSKOGEE, Okla. -- The Tint Shop in Muskogee is back in business exactly one year after the building was leveled by an F2 tornado.

The winds, which the National Weather Service says range from 111-135 mph, destroyed the business owned by Michelle Brook, AKA 'The Tint Lady'.

She now has decor in her building that was salvaged from the tornado, and with some TLC adds character to her walls.

Brook says she was backed up the first month or two after opening in February, after being closed for nine months.

Her building is built stronger. It also has non-slip floors, LED lighting, heating and air, and cords coming from the ceiling. It also comes with a steel storm shelter that is built to withstand an F5 tornado.

Brook calls this her dream shop.

The tornado crossed the Shawnee Bypass (Highway 62) tearing the roof off a 8-family apartment unit at Whispering Pines.

The Muskogee Housing Authority said 10 families were displaced by the tornado, but the Red Cross and several Muskogee Public School teachers stepped in to provide temporary housing.

The housing authority built a brand new unit and replaced several damaged roof shingles as a result of the tornado.

Housing Authority officials say Whispering Pines will start leasing the rebuilt apartments Monday, May 21st.
