Runners who are fast or slow are welcomed to participate in the Tulsa Zoo Run.
According to officials, the race features a 5k and 10k, plus the Ascension St. John 1-mile run.
For the safety of the runners, the gates to Mohawk Park closed at 8:20 a.m. and will re-open to the general public at 10 a.m., officials say.
Officials say the Tulsa Zoo is partnering with the City of Tulsa through Tulsa Water Works to bring 650 gallons of chilled water to Ascension St. John Zoo Run presented by CommunityCare.
All runners are encouraged to bring a re-useable water bottle to help reduce one-time-use plastic waste; only paper cups will be available, helping lower the amount of plastics in our environment, officials say.
Officials say proceeds from the race will benefit phase two of the zoo's building beyond the capital campaign, rebuilding the zoo for the benefit of our animals, staff, and zoo visitors.
All runners will get into the zoo for free, officials say.
Officials say the 50th annual Saint John's Zoo Run will start today, October 5th, at 10 a.m. located at the Tulsa Zoo.
