TULSA - The fallout over falling oil prices continues as another energy giant announces layoffs Monday.

Duarte Costeira went into work Monday morning at the TD Williamson offices in west Tulsa. 15 minutes later, he was led back out the door.

"Obviously it was an unpleasant surprise. At the end of the day, I really don't fault those guys for it."

Costeira started working for the company almost three years ago. Due to a decline in oil prices, he says all employees received a letter from the CEO several weeks ago about the impending layoffs.

Costeira said he did not expect his job an a process engineer to be cut. "I'm going to be honest. I thought it was just going to be temp jobs and maybe new hires. I thought I was pretty safe, but i guess business is doing a little bit worse than I thought.

The layoffs come after several other giants in the oil and natural gas industry also cut workers to save money.

Baker Hughes, Conoco Phillips, Schlumberger and Chesapeake are just a few of the companies announcing layoffs in recent months.

A spokesman for TD Williamson sent 2 Works for You this statement.

"Our industry is going through a downturn and many of our customers are scaling back their plans and projects for the foreseeable future. As a result, we unfortunately have no choice but to do likewise, which is require reductions in spending, and in some cases, personnel."
