TULSA, Okla. — Going to the tag agency takes longer than it used to as people are getting the new Real IDs.

Concerned viewers reached out to 2 Works for You, frustrated with wait times, and told us they were turned away when trying to renew their license.

At the Central Tag Agency, near 16th and Harvard, people need to book an appointment ahead of time-- right now those appointments are about a month out.

Tulsa native Stacy Boyd said this is an issue. Boyd went to the Central Tag Agency to renew her license last month and the agency told her the earliest appointment is November 2nd, the day before the 2020 election.

“My concern mostly at that point was that I used my driver's license as identification when I go to vote," Boyd said. "I literally couldn’t make an appointment to renew my license until the day before the election, and that was a concern to me.”

Boyd's concerned not having a driver's license could impact someone's ability to work or vote in the upcoming election.

“Anybody's license which is expired or supposed to expire in October, they are not going to be able to make an appointment until after the election," Boyd said. "That could impact their ability to work in the upcoming election, and if they are counting on using their driver's license as identification, they need to reach out to their election board.”

Boyd said her biggest problem is not having any of this information before she went to the tag agency.

"A lot of people are going to have the same experience I did, they are going to walk in and expect to renew their license more or less as a quick turn, and it’s not going to happen anymore,” Boyd said.

Boyd said the Central Tag Agency websitedid not say she had to make an appointment.

We reached out to the Oklahoma Tax Commission, which oversees tag agency duties, they directed us to other departments for help.

2 Works for You is reaching out to the Director of the Oklahoma Tax Commission and the Manager at the Central Tag Agency to get answers on why this is happening and how you can get your driver's license renewed quicker.

For now, there are ways to avoid wait times, or other frustrations with the Central Tag Agency.
