Today volunteers began cleaning at the Town and Country neighborhood at 145th and Highway 51.
Officials say most of the homes in this area were under water for at least a week.
Joseph Kralicek, TAEMA Executive Director, says "They're needing assistance in what we call muck-out operation. Getting out all of the wet furniture, wet carpet, tearing down drywall, and just doing a good thorough clean of that house so they can get back in there in a safe and sanitary condition."
TAEMA officials say some of the damage is considered catastrophic, and some of the homes will need to be completely gutted.
