WAGONER COUNTY, Okla. -- A suspect is dead after a standoff with Wagoner County deputies Saturday evening.
Deputies say they responded to calls of a man who appeared to be drunk and firing a gun outside around 5 p.m.
When they got to the trailer park on 285th East Avenue and 5th Street, they say the man was inside the home, firing at the deputies through the trailer.
The deputies called for backup and surrounded the trailer.
They tried to make contact by calling the suspect several times but he kept hanging up, refusing to cooperate with authorities.
Deputies tell us the man shot several more rounds inside the trailer before opening the door and pointing the rifle at the deputies.
That's when deputies say they fired at the suspect. They say the man went back inside but they were confident they hit him.
Wagoner County Sheriff Chris Elliott says this is not the first time deputies have responded to calls about this man.
“There is a call history at this address of an individual that comes out intoxicated and discharges a firearm we’ve been out here before so we’re familiar with him," said Sheriff Elliott.
Witnesses told deputies the man lives alone in the trailer.
After shots were fired deputies evacuated surrounding residents from their homes as a safety precaution.
Rogers County Sheriff's Office assisted at the scene, as well as the OHP swat team.
The medical examiner's office will determine the cause of death of the suspect.
