TULSA, Okla. — Internships and most college jobs were cut short due to the spread of the coronavirus.
The George Kaiser Family Foundation created an initiative they're calling "Summer Tulsa."
Summer Tulsa is a paid internship program, allowing college students to explore the successful business and entrepreneurs of Tulsa.
2 Works for You spoke with a student from the University of Tulsa who says she will really benefit from the program.
Senior Olga Serrano has already applied for Summer Tulsa.
She says after losing housing as an RA at TU, then both her internship and job back in March, this opportunity came at a much needed time.
Serrano heard about the program from her Dean of Career Services, and after a bit of research, it lined up with her dream to work in business and marketing.
To top it off, while applying, she also says something grabbed her attention.
“When applying, they asked me, what is one of the changes that I think Tulsa needs," Serrano said. "And, what are the things that have impacted me, I think that stood out so much to me because this is a program that wants to hear from a younger person's perspective.”
As a New York native, Serrano says she see's a lot of potential for growth in Tulsa within the next ten years.
When the city becomes a destination place, she says she wants to be a part of the team that put in the work.
The deadline to apply for Summer Tulsa is Friday, May 22.
