TULSA -- School officials said in email sent to teachers that a student will be disciplined after officials said the student brought an airsoft gun to Edison Middle School on Tuesday.
Interim principal Martin Vinyard sent out the following information about the incident:
"There was an incident in our middle school earlier today. I wanted you all to have a heads up before I send information out to our parents. A student reported to a teacher that another student had a weapon, in his backpack, on campus. The student and his backpack were located and taken to an administrator's office. The backpack contained an air soft gun, which is similar to a BB gun.
As always, the safety of our students and staff remains our top priority. I am very grateful to the courageous student for coming forward and the quick action taken by a teacher to remove the threat. Once again, I am pleased that the students and staff in our school community are alert and taking actions to keep our school safe. Anytime you hear or see something that causes concern or jeopardizes our safety, report it to an administrator or the campus police."
