This week, the IRS is giving out more information on exactly how millions of Americans will get federal stimulus checks during the health crisis.

They tell us the fastest way to get the money it is to make sure you've filed a tax return for 2019 or 2018 with bank information so the government can directly deposit the money.

The IRS says it will use a person's 2019 return to determine eligibility and automatically send the money to those who qualify.

So who can expect the money?

  • If you made less than $75,000 in 2019
  • If you are a couple who filed jointly and made less than $150,000
  • Or an individual who filed as "head of household" and earned less than $113,000

If you have not filed a 2019 tax return and you qualify, your money will be based on your 2018 tax return.
