In an effort to reduce the risk of infant suffocation, State Sen. Carri Hicks is hoping Oklahoma will adopt Senate Bill 1156, which would ban the sale of crib bumpers and their use in child care facilities.
A 2016 study showed bumpers were attributed to 48 suffocation's between 1985 and 2012.
Of those, 67% were from the bumper alone rather than clutter, blankets or other items.
Hicks' legislation will be considered when the 2020 legislative session convenes in February.
