South Tulsa neighbors say their fears are growing after police responded to Tulsa's 63rd and 64th homicide within hours of each other on Wednesday.
Residents who live in the 61st and Peoria neighborhood say they've lived in fear for quite some time. They're even more worried after hearing two people were shot Wednesday afternoon and one of them died.
"There's a lot of bad things going on all the time," south Tulsa resident Jordan Barton said.
Jordan Barton says he moved into this neighborhood eight months ago. He lives in an apartment building across the street near the intersection of 61st and Peoria.
"Shots were fired at an individual, but he wasn't hit and he ran away," Tulsa Homicide Detective Sgt. Dave Walker said. "Two of his buddies that he was here with were shot. I can confirm one is dead."
Police say there was some sort of ongoing disturbance between two groups of people. We're told it's not gang-related. But that doesn't stop Baton from being skeptical.
"I'm no afraid, but I am concerned quite a bit walking around," Barton said.
Savanna Landing, formerly known as Fairmont Terrace, made headlines in 2013. Four women were shot and killed execution-style. One of two brothers accused in the case is now behind bars for life Tulsa Homicide Detective Dave Walker says the apartment complex has a new name and more security.
"Does that make it immune from problems?," he said. "No. The whole city is inundated right at the moment."
For now, Barton thinks a bigger police presence could be the stat to turning the neighborhood around.
"It's really a bad neighborhood and I was there could be more things to keep us safer here," he said.
We're still waiting to hear the condition of the second person who was shot.
