Skin exposed in cold weather can lead to frostbite

With the dangerous cold not only hitting the upper Midwest but Green Country as well, these frigid temperatures can lead to some pretty serious injuries.

The pictures of people covered in frost bit are from a police department in Minnesota and are swirling around social media.

Frostbite occurs when skin is exposed in really cold temperatures.

Officials say when the wind chill is 20 below all it takes is 30 minutes before frostbite can set in.

Some people have even lost fingers and toes because of the cold weather.
