OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Oklahoma school teachers could carry concealed handguns on campus with less training than required now under a bill approved by a state Senate committee.
The Senate Education Committee voted 11-3 on Tuesday to send the full Senate the bill , which has already passed the House.
A similar bill passed a House committee last year but did not become law.
State law now allows school employees to be armed if they've completed peace officer or armed security guard training. The current bill would add school personnel with a concealed carry license to have weapons on school property.
Moms Demand Action opposes the bill. The group says teachers are trained to educate, not be law enforcement, and that children would not be safer with more armed educators.
