TULSA — A larger-than-life sized bronze statue of legendary racehorse Secretariat is on its way to Kentucky.
The giant statue made a stop in Tulsa yesterday, as it began its journey out of Oklahoma.
It was sculpted by Jocelyn Russell in Norman and is the largest-ever rendering of Secretariat, standing about 13 feet tall and weighing around 4,000 pounds.
Russell says, "It's really big when you are driving and you look in the mirorr and you have Secretariat hot on your heels with his nostrils flared. That's a big horse."
The piece will be dedicated and unveiled at a ceremony in Kentucky on October 12.
Secretariat won the Belmont stakes in 1973, setting the record time and becoming the first Triple Crown Champion in 25 years.
