School resource officers (SROs) are on the front lines when it comes to stopping a school shooting.

In Fort Gibson, the district is about to finally have one of their own.

The police department said its tried for years to get an officer in the schools.

The new partnership between the school district and the police department was announced in a post last week on Facebook.

The new SRO, Officer PJ Oosahwee said one of her goals is to build a bridge between police and the students.

“It's great to be able to be that person. I hope that the kids feel confident in coming to me and letting me know what's going on in their life and being able to help them and this way keeping them safe all with their friends and other classmates, teachers and faculty," said Oosahwee.

Oosahwee is expected to start next Monday.
