Sand Springs police say a man has been arrested after he broke into a house, stole items and even slept off a drug binge while the homeowner was in assisted living.

A report says the victim’s son went to the house on Sunday to prepare for an upcoming estate sale, but he walked in to find the place ransacked and a man asleep in a chair.

Nicholas Taylor Gaskin, 31, of Glenpool, was arrested and booked into the Tulsa County Jail for burglary and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to the report, Gaskin was in possession of jewelry that belonged to the homeowner and more items belonging to others.

Gaskin admitted he used heroin “the night before,” and officers found used syringes and cellophane with a brown residue on it, which officers believed to be from heroin, the report says.

We previously covered another story involving Gaskin, when he was convicted of physically abusing his stepson in 2017. Glenpool police said Gaskin told his stepson to tell people he had bruises because he ran into a pole.

Records show Gaskin still is serving a deferred sentence in that case. He waived his right to a preliminary hearing and pleaded guilty in December 2017. He was sentenced to five years deferred, anger management classes and prohibited from having contact with his stepson, according to online records.
