OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Several rural hospitals are suing Blue Cross Blue Shield of Oklahoma.

The hospitals have requested a temporary restraining order after the insurance company allegedly said it would cut provider reimbursement rates. The order prevents the hospitals' contracts from expiring.

The Oklahoman reports the lawsuit that was filed on behalf of the hospitals in Prague, Fairfax, Haskell and Drumright alleges the insurance provider breached its contract with the hospitals.

The lawsuit says the hospitals met with the insurance provider on Oct. 3 to discuss their contracts. But the hospitals say calls and messages to the provider have since gone unanswered.

The lawsuit alleges that the provider doesn't favor supporting "rural critical access hospitals."

A hearing for the lawsuit is scheduled for Friday. The insurance company declined to comment on the lawsuit.
