ROGERS COUNTY, Okla. -- High speeds in one Rogers County neighborhood is causing residents to take a stand and demand more traffic control but the county says they may not be able to give them what they want.

Residents on ranch road in between Owasso and Claremore say some cars are going as fast as 50 miles an hour on this street. The county says they're taking action, but neighbors say it's just not enough.

“All it takes is one accident,” said resident Kerri Trammel. “You're not allowed to cause an accident around my son. You can't. He's all I have.”

For Kerri and her husband James, it was supposed to be a move to the quiet of the country to allow their son to grow up in the outdoors, but lately, the adventure has ended in the driveway.

“Everytime he gets close to the road, my heart just sinks like it's so scary. It's so scary,” she said.

“At the end of the day, it's my yard. Why can't my kids play in my own front yard?” said James Trammel.

The Trammels have called deputies to watch over drivers who barrel down the road. Now they want stop signs at nearby intersections to force drivers to slow down.

Rogers County maintenance tells 2 Works for You they plan on adding more speed limit and “slow down” signs to the street, but stop signs take time and require traffic studies.

“We have speed limit signs already right there. Fifty feet from our front yard, so what's adding another one going to do? Add another one 20 feet from our front yard? That's not going to slow them down,” said James.

The fight to restore peace and quiet is worthwhile for the trammels. They say for the sake of their neighbors and their children.

“I love my neighbors. I love them. This is the best home we've ever had except for the road,” said Kerri.

Rogers County says those speed limit signs will be posted in the next several days.

Traffic studies could also be coming in the future, but they believe more signals to slow down will help the problem.
