MUSKOGEE COUNTY — Muskogee County residents now have a new way to reach 911.

Officials posted on the Muskogee City/County 911 Center Facebook page that if you live inside the boundaries of Muskogee County, you can text to 9-1-1 on a wireless phone.

It's designed for dangerous situations like domestic violence or an active shooter where calling may put the person at risk.

It's also helpful for the deaf and speech impaired.

If you live outside Muskogee County, you will not have access to text to 9-1-1, the Facebook post said.

If you are texting 911, officials ask that you provide the exact location of your emergency, the type of emergency you are requesting, answer the texts a dispatcher might respond back with and to not use abbreviations, emojis, or photos, the Facebook post read.
