On July 7, 2013, Tom Eastep left the Best Western in Eufaula after spending the holiday weekend with family, including his 30-year-old son Tommy. Tommy's Chevy 4x4 was still in the parking lot of the hotel as Tom and his wife Carla headed out for a vacation in California. But during the trip they were unable to reach their son. Tom and Carla reported him missing as soon as they returned to Blanchard.

Months later Tommy's truck was found by hunters, an hour away from Eufaula in rural Hughes County, near Holdenville. Tommy's license, money, keys and debit card were locked inside.

A search of the area where the truck was found came up empty.
