Red Cross holds one of its largest blood drives at American Airlines base

TULSA, Okla. - The American Airlines maintenance base has roughly 5,200 employees on its airport campus.

From MD-80s to 767s,the techs in Tulsa work around the clock to make sure one of the largest airlines in the world keeps its planes flying safely in the air.

The maintenance base is also known for its generosity to the American Red Cross.

According to officials at the base and with the Red Cross, the blood donation efforts at the maintenance facility are one of the longest and largest for the charity.

The Red Cross partners with the Transport Workers Union (TWU) and American Airlines.

Officials say 400 units were collected during this visit during a time with the American Red Cross has declared a 'blood emergency'.
